Bright Light (2013) - a magnesium ribbon was lit in order to scorch the surface of this wooden panel built from a single birch 2x4. The eyes on either side are rendered in gouache. The bright white light emitted from burning magnesium can cause temporary blindness, and potentially permanent ocular damage with extended exposure.
